Warning of tax scam that is evolving to year-round

It’s a scam that was prevalent during tax season, but now that same scam is evolving. The con artists are determined to target you all year round.
A viewer e-mail asked for advice on some suspicious calls she’d been receiving from a debt collection agency.
Here’s what the con looks like:
Someone claims to be from a debt collection agency or a tax relief company, and they say you owe back taxes to the IRS, but they can get them eliminated for you. They ask you to give them a call back, and they may call and leave messages several times. Before you do anything, take a pause and think this through.
“That is very suspicious because the IRS will first contact you, using U.S. mail or snail mail, as we like to all say. So, once the IRS has contacted you through U.S. mail, you can take the information and use your due diligence and just call the IRS to validate what has been requested,” said cybersecurity strategist at GuidePoint Security, Chris Warner.
